Musandam is the northernmost region of Oman, located on a peninsula separated from the rest of the country. It is surrounded by the territory of the United Arab Emirates and the waters of the Arabian (Persian) Gulf. Thanks to its proximity to major tourist destinations in the region, Musandam can be reached in several convenient ways — by air, by road, or by sea.
✈️ Flight to Khasab Airport
The fastest way to reach Musandam is by flying to the city of Khasab, the administrative center of the region.
Regular domestic flights operate from Muscat, with a flight time of about 1 hour. Khasab Airport is small and conveniently located, so most hotels and attractions can be reached within 10–20 minutes after arrival.
This option is especially convenient for travelers already staying in Oman who want to quickly reach the northern region without a long drive.
🚗 Driving from Dubai or other cities in the UAE
One of the most popular ways to reach Musandam is by car from the UAE. The distance from Dubai to Khasab is approximately 200–220 km, and the journey usually takes around 3–4 hours, including the border crossing.
The route passes through the northern emirates, such as Ras Al Khaimah, before travelers cross the border between the UAE and Oman. After the border, the road continues along scenic coastal landscapes and dramatic mountain slopes.
This route is considered one of the most beautiful drives in the region, offering views of rugged mountains, small fishing villages, and bays with turquoise waters.
🚗 Traveling from Muscat
It is also possible to reach Musandam from Muscat by car, although the route is longer. Because the region is separated from mainland Oman by the UAE, travelers need to cross international borders or choose a combined route.
A common route passes through northern Omani towns including Shinas, before continuing through the UAE toward Musandam. The total travel time may take 6–8 hours, depending on the chosen route and border crossing times.
⛴️ Sea Route
Another interesting way to reach Musandam is by ferry from Muscat to Khasab.
Ferries operate several times a week and offer travelers the chance to enjoy spectacular sea views along the way. The journey takes about 5–6 hours, and the trip itself often becomes part of the travel experience, as passengers can admire the dramatic mountains of Musandam rising directly from the sea.
